"General Settings" Tab

General Settings

This tab contains 3 groups of different settings:

1. Windows Settings

Here are buttons for quick and convenient access to system-wide settings that may be needed when working and configuring ASTER:

  • “Proxy Settings” - opens a window for configuring the operation of the “ASTER Control” program through a proxy server.
  • “Device Manager” - opens a system tool where (if necessary, for example, in the absence of a real network adapter) you can create virtual network devices. The IP addresses of these devices can be assigned to ASTER workplaces.
  • “Network Connections” - opens a system tool where you can add IP addresses to existing network adapters. These IP addresses can be assigned to ASTER workplaces.
You can also set a checkbox here if you want the ASTER screen saver to launch when the system is idle.

2. ASTER Settings

Here are the settings that control the basic behavior of ASTER:

  • The “Enable (Disable) ASTER”button allows you to enable or disable ASTER services and restart the PC. The label on the button and the action (allow or prohibit) depend on the current state of the ASTER services.
  • The “Start ASTER workstations” button allows you to start the ASTER workplaces. The button is inactive when the ASTER services are turned off (see the above point).
  • In the “How to start Workplaces” list, there are three values:
    1. Manually bythe 'Run ASTER workplaces' button. This is the safest method, and it is advisable to use it during the initial launches - until you are sure that everything is going well. Afterward, you can set up automatic workstation startup.
    2. Choose “At system startups” if you want the workstations to start automatically, i.e., immediately after Windows startup. This method requires all monitors connected via HDMI/DP to be powered on at the time of system startup, or they will not start.
    3. If you select “When a user logs in on the first workstation”, the workstations will start automatically, but only when a user logs into the system on the primary (first) workstation. This option can be considered as a deferred alternative to the previous method. It should be used, for example, if it is not possible to guarantee the activation of all HDMI and DP monitors at the time of Windows startup or when using DisplayLink monitors.

Please select the appropriate method from this list.

  • In the dropdown list “Language”, you can select the language localization of the program interface. After making the selection, you will be prompted to restart the program for the changes to take effect.

In the dropdown list “Interface Styles”, you can choose the external design of ASTER. Restarting the program is not required.

  • In the dropdown list “Color Scheme”, you can select the color scheme of the ASTER interface. Restarting the program is not required.
